Going back to Conti's.

Conti's has become one of my favorites because of Mango Brava.  Once in a while, we go back there to have dinner.

We did two Fridays ago.  This time sans my favorite dessert.

I had the Grilled Porkchops served with saffron mushroom risotto.  I found it yummy!  Costs Php215.

Hubby had the Crispy Chicken which costs Php195.  It was a little bit in the salty side, according to him.  He raved about the macaroni salad though.

It was a good dinner and we enjoyed the company of the gay groups at the left and right side of our table.  Richard Poon came to eat... and this was a delight not only to me but to the gay folks on our right side.  They were all ready with their mobile phone cameras.  I hope they were able to snap one picture.

The ambiance is still okay.  I just need to comment on the presentation of the dining tables.  No salt and pepper, no decorations.  It was so plain, seems to me we were eating at a fast food chain.

I would definitely go back for the food.  And next time, instead of the so-so Blueberry Cheesecake that we had, I will stick with the Mango Brava.

Everything Christmas.

It's all systems go for Christmas here in the Philippines.

The decors are all up and all kinds of sales are everywhere.

SM Makati has booths filled with locally-made decors.

Christmas trees made from indigenous materials. The shorter ones cost around Php3500 to Php5000.

Makati is as beautiful as ever with the Christmas street decors. Here is my so amateurish shot using the iPhone camera.

Day with the girls.

Two Saturdays ago, I was able to spend practically the whole day with my girlfriends -- does not happen that much nowadays.

We were complete and celebrated the upcoming wedding of Len.

Faye and I were lucky that the venue was High Street. It was always Trinoma and holding another gathering there is getting too old already.

Had lunch -- super late -- at Kirin. Sorry, no pics... I was extremely hungry.

While waiting for the highlight of the day, we spent the afternoon at Starbucks in Fully Booked. I was 'it'. Here was the damage.

2 Java Chip, 2 Green Tea Frappe, One caramel macchiato, Almond Roca Cheesecake (luvs), and another cake.

Standing: Len (the bride), me (covered face) Sitting: Joy, Faye

This time with Che.

The highlight of the day was our Spa treatment. It's Faye's turn to be it this time. We had one of the villas for ourselves. We all had foot massage + head and shoulder massage.

Entrance to the spa

Len and her mobile phone

All done!

PS. Sorry for the covered me... I would like to stay anonymous.

PSS. I am, by the way, nursing a week old stiff neck because of the massage. Lesson learned -- sound off asap to the massage lady if pressure is great.

Royal Engagement.

Prince William, one of my teenage crushes, is engaged to Kate Middleton.

They have announced their betrothal today.

I can't wait for the wedding Spring/Summer next year.

Congratulations to the couple!

Persimmon.

Sister arrived from her family's vacation in the US.

We got the usual loot -- shirts, toys for my little boy, and chocolates.

Aside from those, she brought back the Persimmon fruit.

It looks like an enlarged tomato or a baby pumpkin. It tastes like apple + pear.

November Christmas.

Homes usually start to put up their Christmas decors as early the first week of November.

I might have to delay. I am not really sure if we are going to spend Christmas in our place.

We are set to transfer to a new place within the year but nothing definite yet.

This was Christmas 2009.

The Fantastic Magkaribal.

I grew up with soap operas as a staple so I am well aware of the evolution of these drama shows, at least in the Philippines. The formula is so easy to follow so what I do is just watch the first few episodes, get snippets in the middle and I do not miss the last part... that is if I like whoever is in the series.

Here is a list of soap operas that I followed -- not watched -- religiously (order is based on like):

1) Pangako Sa 'Yo which was an epic.
2) Marimar, the Thalia (read: original) version
3) Maria La Del Barrio, Thalia starrer again
4) Rosalinda, Thalia starrer still
5) Metor Garden (Series 1), which I so love
6) Pangarap na Bituin because of Sarah G.
7)
Mula sa Puso. Thanks to the late Rico Yan.

And now, may I add Magkaribal to the list?

It is, for me, what a soap opera of the modern times should be all about. Put it on the top of my list, please.

Honestly, I do not like Bea. I think she is an actress so unnatural that during crying scenes, she seems to be trying her best not to yawn (yawning is actually the best way to make yourself shed those artista tears, try it). I do not like Gretchen and her persona but yes, she still has it (acting). I do not like Erich and her supposedly conyo accent nor I get kilig in the Erich-Enchong tandem.

BUT the story is so wonderfully written that I was able to go past my dislikes and concentrate on the story and how it was presented.

I shed a tear when Victoria lost her baby, shed a tear again when Victoria found out that Gelai was her sister, and shed a tear again when the sisters saw each other. Gretchen was very good in her crying scenes and was superb in her confrontational scenes especially the last row about the finale dress.

I love Vera's character. She is so mean but she is so in love with her husband. Other famous soap villains were merely evil and whatever hurt that caused their vengeful acts got lost in the story because they were portrayed as just evil. Vera was different because one can clearly see how she was heartbroken by the demise of Manuel.

Manuel was a class act while Papa Ronaldo Valera was the best portrayed old rich fag in town. Love, love, love to pieces!

I do hope that they would not come up with a series 2 for Magkaribal because they have to leave this epic at that... great and unforgettable.

S&R Canned Goods.

Here are two of the reasons why I continue to pay the annual membership fee in S&R...

1. They have the cheapest SPAM for Php91.95. SM Hypermart's price is around Php97, Rustan's I believe more than a hundred bucks.

2. Libby's Vienna Sausage is love for my little boy. Only S&R has the 18-can box and it only costs a little over Php499 which is equivalent to Php27.72 per can.

October 31.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY to my sister, Margaret!!!

She is a Halloween baby. Hehe.

Hope she is having a blast while vacationing in the US.

Hope she gets an iPad for her birthday... so I don't need to buy.
