New Shoes!!!

I just lost two pairs of shoes.  Sad because they served me well.

My Kenneth Cole pumps were beyond repair but she is 3 years old so I let go.  My other shoes, a Naturalizer Lifestride sandal, can still be saved but she will never be the same.

The good thing about shoes is they can be replaced.  And the process of replacing them is therapy... a great way to forget the past and move on.

It was Monday... my sandal strap broke away from the sole and an earthquake just shook Metro Manila.  Makati was jammed because practically everyone went home at the same time.

Global City was, however, wide open and so is High Street.  I could not delay the replacement anymore so off I went shoe hunting.

Here you go.

Another Kenneth Cole.

Light and funky.  She is good for another 3 years.

Thank you, new shoes, for making me forget the pain of losing my reliable pumps!

IDeas.

I have been busy this past few weeks because we will be moving to a new place... a bigger one (but considering the small space that we have now, the "bigger" may not truly mean BIG).

Phone calls here and there with the agent, site visits every now and then.  Of course, the paperworks are always a pain... yadda, yadda, yadda.

Now that the place has been turned over to us, the next step is making sure that it is livable for us... the minimum requirements of a home is in place.  This would mean buying the basic furniture that will help us beautify the box we are going to live in while we save money for future interior renovations!

My good friend, Allan, was the smart guy here.  He suggested that we visit a new furniture store located in Pasong Tamo, Makati, just across the GSK complex.  It is called IDeas For Living and according to him, there are a lot of cheap good stuff.

It was TRUE.  Good stuff, low price.  Not too cheap like SM Homeworld, but definitely better prices than Dimensione.  PLUS, service is way better than your ordinary furniture store.

The place is actually a big warehouse.

While a no-no for the others, it is OK to take pictures here!

They also sell reproduced artworks so they are cheap.

Here is the couch I wanted (but I bought another one from Homeworld!)

You can also find small pieces that would complete your home.

While going around the place, a salesperson tags along with you not to annoy you or force you to buy.  They are there for questions and to take note of your choices.  Because, they send you a quotation of the pieces!  Neil Cruz, our attendant, was super mabait and was very sincere.  He sent the quotation to my inbox the very next day.

They do not charge delivery fees but I live nearby so not sure it would be the same for the whole metro.  They also do not charge storage fees if in case you still need more time before the delivery.  Would have been much better if they also offer the 0% installment schemes.

I will definitely go back soon to close a few items I liked (like the chest which I hope is still available).

I finally found the right furniture shop for me.  This is for keeps.

And since I was sick during your birthday (still sick today), this was all the surprise that I was able to prepare.

Hope you were indeed surprised!

Love you, hon!

Friday Without Hubby.

Hubby is now on afternoon shift so I am left to fend for myself during Friday nights.

Last Friday, though, I was not alone.  My officemate and friend, Cindy, accompanied me in buying a new job gift for hubby.

We went to Greenbelt 5 and bought hubby three "modern" neckties from Marks & Spencer.  Modern because they are the slim ties... not the classic ones.

Then, it was time to eat.  While searching for a place to dine, we found this.

From Iphone loads

Apparently, a bag store BUT with loads and loads of San Miguel Pale Pilsen cans.  I did not get the store name but one would not surely miss it that mall.

We are on tipid mode so the requirement was a cheap place to eat... not to be found in gb5!  Cindy had a great idea of using our Sodexho GCs.  And since she brought the Sodexho booklet along with her, we found that Fely J's is an accredited restaurant!  Hooray!

We ordered Dilis Rice.  For the non-dilis lovers, this is something you got to try.  It ain't super dilis, promise!

From Iphone loads

It was Friday in Lent so we had Tilapia with Sweet Plum Sauce.  The combination did not amaze me.  I would rather have the Binukadkad na Pla-Pla of Abe's, their sister restaurant.

From Iphone loads

With a can of Coke light and salabat tea, our bill was roundabout Php780.  We had a Php500 GC so we shelled out Php280 only!!!

We immediately left after dinner because Cindy had a date!  I, on the other hand, had to catch my little boy before he slept.

Thanks for the company, Cinds! :)

Yummy Cough Medicine.

I have been caught by the cold (and cough?) virus twice in the past 3 months.  And in those two episodes, I did not resort to the buying the over-the-counter cough syrups.

Why?

Because I have an effective home remedy!!!

Honey + Calamansi extract.  This was actually one of my Dad's teachings (he grew up in the barrio so he has a big bag home of remedies).

I found the ready concentrate in 750ml bottles in the grocery for around Php160.

From Digicam Shots

My original intention for buying is to have a fresher alternative to powdered juices.  This came in handy, one night, when my throat was itchier than gabi.

From Digicam Shots

Here's the drill -- before going to sleep, drink one tablespoon.  Allow the syrup to coat your throat first before drinking a glass of water.  The water must NOT be cold.  This is an effective cure for itchy throat... a great inconvenience when it strikes during bedtime.

You can repeat in the morning after breakfast but usually the night ritual is enough.

Then, when you are okay, make yourself a refreshing iced calamansi juice.

Note: For kids below 10, please check with your pediatricians first.

My Greatest Defense.

I must admit I am one big "praning" (read: paranoid) person so almost all the time I worry.

Not because of myself but because of the people I love.

I am, however, thankful that I am praning because of a few things.

- I research about things I am paranoid about... so I sort of know a little bit more than an ordinary layman.
- Life goes on and I don't let my paranoia consume me (totally)... so I can say I face the world with a brave heart and spirit.
- My paranoia makes me hold on to prayers.

The recent events, specifically, the earthquake, tsunami and the nuclear problem in Japan, were some of those that I most feared.

I do talk to God but I have not been touching my rosary for a while.  Japan made me hold it again... now, I try my best to say the rosary every night just like before.

Lord, please bring comfort to the people of Japan.  And please don't let that happen anywhere in world again... Amen.

Peach Mango Float.

I had a can of Peach Halves lying around my kitchen so I attempted to make a Peach Mango Float awhile ago.  I am hoping it's okay since it does not look like the best float in town.  Let's see tomorrow.

Here are the ingredients.

Nestle cream.  I did use the whole can though I think it was not enough considering I had lots of peaches.

From Digicam Shots

Condensed Milk.  I used around 4/5 of the can.

From Digicam Shots

Peaches.  Big can!

From Digicam Shots

From Digicam Shots

Mangoes.  This should have been just a Peach Float but this mango was just hours from being overripe so I included it.

From Digicam Shots

Graham crackers, of course.

From Digicam Shots

How to prepare:

1.  Mix the cream and condensed milk.  Watch out for the taste.  Pour in the fruits (peaches and mangoes).  Leave some fruits for the topping.

From Digicam Shots

2.  Place the graham crackers in a pan.  This will serve as the base.

From Digicam Shots

3.  Pour the first layer of mixture.

From Digicam Shots

4.  Top the mixture with graham crackers.  Repeat the layering until your reach the desired float height.

5.  Topmost layer would be the graham crackers.  Garnish with thinner layer of the mixture + the fruits.

From Digicam Shots

6.  Chill in the refrigerator.

From Digicam Shots

7.  Serve cold.

Good luck tomorrow.

Update: The Peach Mango Float was a hit.  The whole house loved it.  We are down to two slices (nagkahiyaan lang!)...

Poser.

My son hated the camera.  He would squirm whenever we put him in front of the camera.

Last year during our LA Vacay...

Now that he has transformed from a baby to a little boy, he recently started to do more than just smile.

Here he is goofing around with his cousins at the Marquee mall.

This Blog and My Birthday Gifts.

Because I have been diligent in writing the things I like in this blog, I get gifts that I need and want!

Hubby decided to rely on my Christmas wishlist.  I scored two more which ups my batting average to 7/9.

First, he got me no. 6 in my list -- an iPhone earphone + mic.

He also got me no. 9 -- the Suesh Makeup Brushes!

My good friend Allan also gave me a super nice treat!  Face Shop nail polish... not just one but FIVE colors!  I love you, Allan. :)

March is hubby's month.  What to get him?  Nuninuninu... If only he has his published list...

My Day.

It all started with S&R bacon for breakfast.  My husband indeed loves me... because he knows that I am in love with bacon and S&R bacon is the best our country has.

Then, I had tons of greetings personally and via text, facebook and twitter.  This went on for the rest of the day and even up until the next day.

My new teammates bought pizza for me and sang a happy birthday song.  It was touching because many of them, I have not talked to for more than 5 minutes.

My old teammates also remembered.  They surprised me with a cake before I went home.  They also gave me a gift... leggings which fit!

We stayed in the house for dinner.  Hubby bought Wee Nam Kee.  My first time to taste it.  It was yummy.

That weekend, I treated my family to dinner... in my parents' house.  I brought in Conti's food which everyone truly enjoyed.

Here's the Chicken Barbecue.  Boneless!

Lumpiang Sariwa.  From 12 down to 3.

Pancit Bam-I.  Good though Buddy's is still better.

Not in the picture but definitely a hit is the Lengua Estofado.

Over 30.  Should I now stop counting my age?  But I won't stop counting the blessings.  Thank you, Lord, for a beautiful life!
